Y’all, chocolate covered anything is basically my weakness, but salty and sweet is hands down my favorite combo. I have a bowl of ice cream and follow it up with a bag of salt and vinegar chips on the regular. Chocolate covered pretzels hit the spot perfectly for me, but I have two kids that can’t have dairy which makes treating myself a little more complicated since dairy-free chocolate covered pretzels aren’t exactly easy to find. For Matthew’s monster trucks birthday party, I wanted “dipsticks” from chocolate covered pretzel rods, but of course, that meant I’d have to make them myself!
I needed a recipe that would let me make a bunch in a fairly short period of time because I had two kids on my own, while Ryan was off training in North Carolina, Matthew was in school, I was juggling my business/blog, and just trying to keep my head above water. This recipe is not only easy, but it’s super tasty. These wound up being the favorite on the table, with none leftover after the party. The key to making sure you can’t tell they’re dairy-free is to buy the best chocolate you can. Most dark chocolate is inherently dairy-free, and even many chocolate chips are. Just check the labels on the back, but these are our favorites (and the ones I used for this recipe). For a fun twist, try adding a few drops of peppermint essential oil or even Wild Orange essential oil!
