Since joining the Church, I have realized just how much a part of everyday life being Catholic is. I thought I was gaining a faith, but truly, it’s a way of life. I love what an incredible family I’ve joined, which makes me want to delve deeper into my faith. There are books that every Catholic mom needs in her personal library, but these 5 are the epitome of that list, in my opinion.
Living liturgically is something that’s been on my heart for a few years now. The Catholic faith is so full of rich tradition that it deserves to be included in our daily life. I’ve done a lot of blog and book reading but it still felt really intimidating to jump in. These 5 books are truly books every Catholic mom needs if they want to take the leap with me. They’ve helped me so, so much and I hope they’ll help you, too!
The 5 Books Every Catholic Mom Needs
The Catholic Mom’s Prayer Companion (edited by Lisa M. Hendey and Sarah A. Reinhard)– This is hands-down my favorite book for keeping my faith in my daily routine. The daily readings take less than 5 minutes, so even if I wake up late, the kids are crying, breakfast got burned, whatever, I have no excuse NOT to read and put a little God in my day. Each month has a theme so you reflect on the same genre of messages for a month long, which I feel like allows me to get deeper into my thoughts and feelings with God.
A Book of Saints for Catholic Moms (by Lisa M. Hendey)– Y’all, we all know Catholics love their saints. If we have a list of books every Catholic mom needs, this one has to be on it. This book goes through each saint’s life, meaning, and favorite Bible verses, as well as giving a prayer for the family and Mama each day.
The Catholic Catalogue (by Melissa Musick and Anna Keating)– The Catholic Catalogue was given to me by my “Catholic Mama”– a woman I grew up with as a second mom, who happens to be Catholic– and I’ve been unbelievably grateful. It walks you through Catholic life, as well as all the seasons and ideas for how to incorporate your faith into your family life. I can’t speak highly enough about this book if you want to live more liturgically or if you need easy explanations of Catholic doctrine.
Feast! (by Daniel and Haley Stewart)– Speaking of living more liturgically, Feast! gives you simple recipes and traditions for celebrating the Catholic seasons, as well as the saints. It includes recipes for every season and many saints, including lesser-known ones. The Stewarts do a great job of giving you reflections with each recipe so you can grow in your relationship with God and the faith.
The New Catholic Answer Bible— A Bible is a must-have book for Catholic moms? Of course! I love this one because it gives you easy answers to Catholic FAQs, while it gives you study notes on each and every verse through the Bible. It also has a Rosary on the back so even if you don’t have yours, you can pray and meditate on the Word.
